Fur - Coming Soon!
In a quaint village nestled between forest and field lives Hector, a gentle dog with the most magnificent coat of fur. His snowy white coat is admired by all, but when winter’s grip tightens and the birds shiver against the icy winds, Hector discovers a greater purpose for his prized fur.
Instead of letting his tufts scatter on the breeze, Hector begins to gather them carefully, creating a store where the village birds can collect the soft strands to line their nests. Each evening, feathered friends swoop through the trees, their chirps and squawks echoing with gratitude as they leave with beakfuls of warmth. With every wag of Hector’s tail, thump, thump, thump, his heart grows lighter.
As the seasons turn, the birds’ nests flourish with Hector’s offerings. Yet when word spreads and more birds arrive, his store is soon running low. Faced with the problem of running short, Hector calls upon the wider village. Rabbits, cats, foxes, squirrels, even mice put aside their differences to contribute tufts of their own fur. Together they create a dazzling collection: chestnut, grey, white, russet, textures and colours blending like a living tapestry.
The re-opened store becomes more than a refuge. It is a celebration of community, kindness, and cooperation. The birds’ songs fill the forest with joy, and the animals stand united, warmed not just by their fur but by the bonds they have woven together.
Fur is a tender fable of generosity, resilience, and shared responsibility. With lyrical storytelling and stunning whimsical watercolour illustrations, it gently invites children to consider themes of empathy, sustainability, and interconnectedness. A heart-warming picture book, it is destined to be cherished across classrooms, libraries, and homes as a timeless story of giving and belonging.
